ATLANTA — An 84-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were shot in southeast Atlanta on Sunday afternoon in two incidents police believe may be connected. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance and were awake and breathing when help arrived.
What happened: Atlanta police responded to two shooting calls within about 13 minutes of each other on August 10.
- Around 3:41 p.m., officers found the 84-year-old woman at 2245 Browns Mill Rd. SE with a gunshot wound.
- Around 3:54 p.m., officers found the 21-year-old man at 436 Lindsey Dr. SE with a gunshot wound.
What investigators believe: Early findings suggest both shootings may be tied to gunfire that broke out in the area of E. Rhinehill Rd. SE and Browns Mill Rd. SE. Police have not confirmed a definitive connection, and the information released is preliminary and could change.
Where things stand: Detectives who handle aggravated assault cases are leading the investigation. No arrests or suspect information have been announced. The investigation is ongoing.
