A 5-year-old girl died after being shot in Americus on Saturday night. Two others were injured, and authorities are investigating the circumstances.

The Details: Authorities responded to a shooting in Americus on Saturday night that left a 5-year-old girl dead and two others injured. Officers with the Americus Police Department responded to a shots fired call around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Eastview Circle. When they arrived, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Among them was 5-year-old Peyton Brielle Roberts, who was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. A 19-year-old man was also transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital before being moved to another facility in critical condition. A third victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are now piecing together what led to the shooting. Witnesses are being interviewed, and authorities are working to determine if the victims were targeted. So far, no arrests have been made.
