The City of Johns Creek has created an online calculator tool to help homeowners in the city calculate and verify their 2019 property exemptions found on 2019 property assessment notices. The new Homestead Exemption Calculator Tool can be found on the city’s website at https://www.johnscreekga.gov/residents/finance/property-taxes/homestead-exemption/active-projects.
In November 2018, Fulton County voters approved nine new homestead exemptions, created by the Georgia General Assembly. All homesteaded properties in Fulton County now benefit from at least one of these new exemptions, which were automatically applied to properties with existing homestead exemptions.
Most of the new homestead exemptions are a form of “floating” exemption, which set a cap on the maximum annual taxable value in any year. These new homestead exemptions set a base year that is the lowest qualifying value from 2016, 2017 or 2018.
All real estate property owners in Johns Creek received their 2019 Property Assessment Notice from Fulton County Assessors Office. (If you are a homeowner and haven’t received your 2019 Property Assessment Notice from Fulton County please visit www.fultonassessor.org to review your 2019 notice.)

Whether this is a homeowner’s fourth property assessment notice or their 24th, there may be questions about the new homestead exemptions automatically applied to properties with existing homestead exemptions.
With a 2019 property assessment appeal deadline of August 2, homeowners will want to make sure they understand and verify they are receiving the most accurate and correct exemption calculation.
Johns Creek homeowners can verify their 2019 homestead exemption included in their annual notice of assessment by completing the 2019 Homestead Exemption Calculator Tool located on the City of Johns Creek website.
The website page dedicated to the tool also has step-by-step instructions for homeowners to verify their correct exemption calculation. By starting with a copy of the 2019 Property Assessment Notice for a property, homeowners can follow the instructions and input their specific data to arrive at their 2019 Homestead Exemption, which should match the 2019 Homestead Exemption figure on the homeowner’s 2019 Property Assessment Notice.
