Right now, it looks like snow will be limited to the mountains of North Georgia, while the rest of the state will get heavy rains.

Widespread rain will overspread north and central Georgia from north to south on Saturday as a low-pressure system moves across the southeast states.

The National Weather Service forecasts that rainfall totals will average from one to two inches across much of the area, with up to three inches possible, especially south of Columbus to Macon.

The weather service warns that locally heavy rainfall could result in some minor flooding of creeks and streams.

The rain may begin to mix with snow at times, mainly above 2,000 feet early in the evening, and then change over to all snow by early Sunday morning. Up to two inches of snow is possible at the highest elevations.

In addition to the widespread rainfall and potential wintry weather in the mountains, winds will be gusty across the entire outlook area. A Wind Advisory has been issued for this afternoon through the overnight hours.

Later in the week, The National Weather Service predicts that a cold front will move through north and central Georgia on Thursday and Friday, and a few thunderstorms are possible as the front moves through.
