The GBI has arrested a Georgia State Patrol Officer who who shot and killed a 60-year-old earlier this month after a brief chase.
The GBI has arrested 27-year-old Jacob Gordon Thompson on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. He will be booked into the Screven County Jail. Officials say the investigation supports the charges and is active and ongoing.
Thompson has been terminated from the Georgia State Patrol. In a news release, officials with the state patrol said Thompson was fired due to his “negligence or inefficiency in performing assigned duties; or commission of a felony.”
Thompson was hired in 2013.

On Friday, August 7, at about 9:20 p.m. the GBI was asked by the Georgia State Patrol to investigate an officer involved shooting.
According to the GBI’s original report, preliminary information showed that Thompson attempted to stop a Nissan Sentra for a traffic related offense on Stoney Pond Road in Screven County. The driver of the car did not stop and led the Thompson on a brief chase down several county roads. Thompson initiated a Precision Intervention Technique and the car came to a stop in the ditch.
The GBI said Thompson fired one round, striking 60-year-old Julian Edward Roosevelt Lewis. Lewis was pronounced dead on scene.
