In the 24 hour period from 3 p.m. Thursday to 3 p.m. Friday, Georgia reported that 82 people had died from COVID-19.
This is the highest number if deaths reported in a single day since April 20. The death toll on April 20 was 85 and is the highest number of deaths reported in Georgia since the pandemic began.
The number of new cases of coronavirus reported Friday also hit a record number with 4,813 new confirmed cases. This brings the state’s total to 161,401 confirmed cases.
There were 399 more hospitalizations reported Friday, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 16,752.

Georgia also saw its highest number of ICU admissions in a single day since the state began reporting those numbers. On Friday, the state added 85 new ICU admissions, bringing the total number of COVID-19 ICU admissions to 3,119.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp reports that Georgia had the highest number of test in a single day Friday with 45,506 test reported. Of those, 11.2% were positive. The state’s overall test positivity rate is 10.6%.
