For high school seniors, the coronavirus pandemic is a tough pill to swallow — if not the toughest in their high school careers. For many there was no prom, there will be no traditional graduation ceremony, and nearly half of the school festivities that they have been looking forward to for years have been ripped away.
The Glynn County School System is one of several that have found a special way to honor the Class of 2020 even though the Class of 2020 isn’t in class.
Starting tonight, the school system’s athletics department will recognize the Class of 2020 by turning on the stadium lights at various locations throughout the county at 8:20 p.m. nightly. Why 8:20 p.m.? In military time, 8:20 is 20:20.
The lights will stay on for 20 minutes per night every Tuesday and Friday Night beginning through the end of May when the Seniors were scheduled to graduate.
