ROSWELL — The City of Roswell is making moves to acquire the old Crabapple Middle School, planning to spend $6.5 million on the 20-acre property next to Roswell Area Park.
The deal got the nod from Fulton County’s school board on February 13, with a decision from Roswell’s City Council expected on February 26. This purchase is part of a bigger plan, funded by the bond money local voters approved back in 2022.
Crabapple Middle School moved to a new location in 2021, leaving its old site available. Since then, the school district has been using it for office space. With this purchase, the city aims to give the land a new purpose that benefits the community.
The school district will have six months to move out once the deal is finalized.
Moreover, Roswell has secured a first chance to buy additional properties from the school district if they decide to sell any within the next three years.
City leaders are still figuring out the best use for the land, promising to keep residents in the loop and ask for their ideas on what it should become. The purchase will go through the usual checks to make sure everything is in order, with plans to wrap things up soon after the City Council gives its OK.
