In a solemn announcement from Savannah, the University of Georgia mourns the loss of its beloved former mascot, Uga X, affectionately known as Que. Que passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning at his home, leaving behind a legacy cherished by the Bulldog community.

Born on May 27, 2013, Que ascended to the prestigious role of the University of Georgia’s mascot in a ceremonial collaring event at the Georgia-Georgia Southern football game on November 21, 2015. His tenure as the face of Bulldog spirit was marked by remarkable success and unwavering loyalty.

During his illustrious career, Que witnessed and symbolized the Bulldogs’ triumphs on numerous occasions. Under his watchful eye, the team achieved an impressive 91-18 record. He was at the helm during two Southeastern Conference championships and led the cheers during the 2021 and 2022 College Football Playoff national championships.

After a successful and memorable run, Que retired following the 2022 season. He passed on the revered title to Uga XI, known as “Boom”, in another collaring ceremony before the G-Day spring game in 2023. This transition marked the continuation of a tradition deeply embedded in the heart of the University of Georgia.

The lineage of Uga mascots, a symbol of pride and spirit for the university, began in 1956. It was initiated by Frank and Cecelia Seiler and has been lovingly upheld by the Seiler family for nearly seven decades. The current steward of this tradition, Charles Seiler, expressed a poignant sentiment reflecting the change in the family’s routine with Que’s passing and Boom’s ascension.

“Things will be a little different around the house for a while,” Charles Seiler remarked. He fondly recalled how Que would traditionally signal his readiness for breakfast around 5:30 a.m. In a bittersweet note, he mentioned that Boom, his successor, is adjusting to his new role, indicating his breakfast time a little later than Que did.

Que’s passing marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in the storied history of the University of Georgia’s mascots. As the Bulldog community reflects on Que’s significant contributions, they also look forward to the future with Boom, carrying forward the legacy of loyalty, spirit, and pride that defines the University of Georgia.
