How To Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree in Cherokee County

The Gist: Cherokee Recreation and Parks hosts ‘Bring One for the Chipper,’ a Christmas tree recycling initiative, from Jan. 6 to Jan. 13 at Hobgood Park.

The Details: Residents of Cherokee County can participate in the sustainable recycling of their live Christmas trees. The event will take place at Hobgood Park at 6688 Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock. Trees can be dropped off daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. during the event period. It’s essential that participants remove all ornaments, lights, and bases from the trees before drop-off. Wreaths, garland, and other items are not accepted.

By The Numbers:

  • 8 days of recycling opportunity.
  • 16 hours available each day for tree drop-off.

In Context: This recycling event aligns with broader environmental sustainability efforts. The recycled trees will be transformed into mulch, which will be used at the dog park within Patriots Park. This is part of a growing trend in communities to repurpose holiday trees in an eco-friendly manner.

Why It Matters: The ‘Bring One for the Chipper’ initiative offers a practical solution for disposing of Christmas trees while contributing positively to the environment. By turning these trees into mulch for local parks, the program helps reduce waste and supports community green spaces.

What You Can Do: Residents can participate by bringing their live Christmas trees to the specified location within the mentioned timeframe. Ensure all decorations are removed to facilitate the recycling process.

What’s Next?: On Jan. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Keep Cherokee Beautiful will be distributing a limited number of seedlings at the site, encouraging further community involvement in environmental sustainability.
