Here’s why you may hear explosions in Richmond County this week

Start

If you hear explosions in Richmond County this week, do not be alarmed. Local officials say this is all part of a training exercise.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad, State K-9 Units, and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency Department of Homeland Security, will be conducting explosives training on Wednesday, August 16, and Thursday, August 17, at the sheriff’s office training center on 2098 Greenland Rd.

During the training sessions, residents in the vicinity of the training center may hear or feel the effects of the explosives. Authorities would like to assure residents that all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of the surrounding area during the exercises.

Explosives training is an essential part of law enforcement operations, allowing officers and specialized units to enhance their skills in identifying, mitigating, and responding to potential threats. By conducting regular exercises, the local authorities aim to maintain a high level of preparedness and ensure the safety and security of Richmond County residents.
