Heavy rain

Will it storm in Georgia this weekend?

Start

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northern and central Georgia, urging residents to brace for potential thunderstorms.

This afternoon and tonight, thunderstorms will scatter across the region, with a higher concentration expected in middle Georgia. Although these thunderstorms should not reach severe levels, some could briefly intensify, resulting in heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

During storm periods, the the weather service advises residents to stay indoors, unplug electrical appliances, and secure outdoor objects that strong winds could displace.

From Saturday through Thursday, the thunderstorms will persist, expected to occur primarily in the afternoon and evening. These storms could also carry the risks of heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds.

During thunderstorms, the weather service advises staying away from windows, avoiding low-lying areas where water could accumulate quickly, and refraining from using electrical equipment or bathing due to the risk of lightning.
