What will happen to Gwinnett Place Mall?

Start

The Gist: Gwinnett Place Mall’s revitalization strategy was adopted by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners this week. The strategy focuses on housing, mobility, and greenspace and follows two extensive studies of the mall and its potential redevelopment.

The Plan: The Equitable Redevelopment Plan to Reclaim Gwinnett Place Mall was created through a series of community-driven feedback sessions to ensure local voices were heard, while the second study was a partnership between Gwinnett County, the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, and the Atlanta Regional Commission through their Livable Centers Initiative program. The redevelopment action plan is expected to take place over the next 20 years.

Why It Matters: The strategy, called Global Villages, includes an action plan for the area’s transformation into seven villages surrounding a central park. This will help meet residents’ needs and requests for housing, small businesses, cultural activity centers, neighborhood services, and jobs.

What’s Next?: The adoption of the Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Strategy is the first step in a 20-year process that will transform the area into Global Villages, fulfilling the needs and requests of residents.
