Severe beating leads to death of 52-year-old Atlanta man

A 52-year-old Atlanta man died Saturday as a result of a being severely beaten in December, police say.

The Gwinnett Police Department has charged 21-year-old Bryan Alvarado, of Duluth, and 23-year-old Yeison Alvarado, also from Duluth, with felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, robbery, and false imprisonment in connection with the death of 52-year-old Raul Diaz-Villalba, of Atlanta.

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, officers from the Central Precinct responded to an assault call where a man was bleeding and unconscious.

Upon arrival, officers found Diaz-Villalba with multiple lacerations, discoloration, a swollen face, and wounds all over his head.

Officers provided aid to Diaz-Villalba, who was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries by Gwinnett Fire.

Through the investigation detectives say they learned the suspects and victim got into a physical altercation over money. 

On Jan. 14, detectives were notified that Villalba had died.

On Jan. 17, the Gwinnett Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that the cause of death was a result of the injuries to the head inflicted by the attack from the suspects.
