14 families displaced after playground fire spreads to Duluth apartment building

DULUTH — A fire that broke out at an apartment complex playground spread to a nearby apartment building, displacing 14 families.

The fire started at about 2:10 p.m. on the 4300 block of Satellite Boulevard in Duluth.

Multiple bystanders reported seeing a fire near the playground with large flames. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the playground on fire and spreading to a nearby apartment building.

The apartment building’s power meter sustained significant damage from the fire. Due to safety concerns, power was disconnected to the building. 

The fire was brought under control by 2:27 p.m.

Firefighters worked with apartment management to establish shelter for families in 14 apartment units. Assistance from the American Red Cross was not needed at this location.

According to fire officials, the cause of the fire was undetermined and remains under investigation. There were no injuries reported at either incident.
