In honor of Mother’s Day, The Georgia Sun would like to take a moment to pay tribute to all the moms out there. Regardless of your parenting style, you deserve far more than one day and while those of you with young children probably don’t get to hear it often, here are a few things your kids would probably want you to know if they were tantrum-free and could communicate just a tad better.
Your love matters more than your style. I know sometimes I can be hard to handle, especially on my bad days. But I also know you love me. Don’t worry so much about your parenting style or how consistent you’re being. What matters most to me is knowing that you love me and that you’re always there for me, even when I am at my worst.
I just like being with you. When you’re too tired to think and you’ve had a long day, don’t feel guilty if you can’t play with me as much as you’d like to. I enjoy being in the same room as you, whether we’re playing a game or just co-existing together after a long day. I can get just as much out of sitting next to you eating a snack together as I do when you are actively playing with me.
Thanks for cooking it, even if I didn’t eat it. I may have flat out refused to eat it or even thrown some of it across the room, but thank you for trying to expand my culinary and nutrition horizons. I can’t promise I won’t refuse a meal again, but I’ll grow to appreciate it.
You’re a Hard Working Momma. I don’t care if you work a full time 40+ hour per week job, a part-time “mom job,” or stay at home with me all day, you are teaching me and molding me and on the good days, all you get in return are smiles and hugs. I may not always show it, but I value and appreciate all the work you do.
Just because I get upset, it doesn’t mean I’m not having fun. Remember last week when you planned that fun day together and you thought it was a wash because I screamed at you, cried twice and threw a tantrum getting out of the car? That’s just because I have big emotions that I don’t know what to do with. I had a fun day, even if I didn’t show it. Don’t stop. You’ve got this.
