If you noticed a strange smell in the air in Fayetteville, you’re not alone.

The city has confirmed that the problem is related to construction at the wastewater treatment plant and the odor could stick around for a few days.

According to city officials, due to the ongoing construction at the plant, the contractor had to shift some of the flow in the plant resulting in the odor. The staff at the plant is treating the flow with chemicals to help reduce the possibility of odors, but some could still occur.

City officials say they anticipate that once the construction is fully completed, the new process will minimize the odor issues at the plant site.
