Georgia has more than 55,000 confirmed coronavirus cases

Georgia has reported 810 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s daily COVID-19 status update.

The total number of cases statewide now stands at 55,783 confirmed cases. In addition, the state reported 43 deaths from the virus since yesterday. The death toll in Georgia is now 2,418.

The state reports an additional 108 hospitalizations since yesterday, bringing the total number of hospitalizations to 9,181 statewide.

Gwinnett County has now surpassed Fulton County for the highest number of cases, with 5,089 confirmed cases. Fulton County has 5,069 confirmed cases. Fulton County remains the county with the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 with 280. Cobb County has 215 deaths, Gwinnett has 152 and Dougherty County has 150 reported deaths.

Healthcare workers account for 5,219 of the state’s confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The state announced today that it has now tested 97% of all nursing home residents for the virus.
