SAVANNAH — The Savannah Police Department was out in full force over Memorial Day Weekend. In addition to warning and citing local businesses for violating social distancing guidelines, the police also cited several motorists for Memorial Day Weekend traffic violations.

On May 12, Governor Brian Kemp released guidelines, as part of his executive order, detailing how restaurants and dining rooms should operate to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. These guidelines included increased distancing of patrons and employees while operating.

With the amount of people we expected to visit establishments to enjoy Memorial Day weekend, we knew we had to take a hard stance to ensure their well-being.”

Between May 23 and 25, the department’s Alcohol Beverage Compliance Unit visited several alcohol serving establishments in order to examine their compliance with the guidelines.

According to the Savannah Police Department, The Social Club on 411 W. Congress Street received two citations and B&D Burger on 209 W. Congress Street received one citation.
