CORNELIA — A 79-year-old Cornelia resident died in a house fire Friday night at his home in Lakeview Heights.

Habersham County Fire Department officials say they were called at about 7:30 p.m. and discovered the body of Jean Arthur Jones Sensow in the living room of the home.

According to officials, the residence was heavily damaged by the fire and it appeared to have started in the area of the stove in the kitchen.

The body of the deceased was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy. An official ruling will be made on the fire when the autopsy results are back. However, officials say it will likely be ruled accidental.

The brick residence was about 55 years old and 1,268 square feet.

No working smoke detectors were present in the home at the time of the fire.

Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office assisted the Habersham County Fire Department, City of Demorest Fire Department, and Habersham County Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.

So far in 2019, fires have claimed the lives of 46 people in Georgia.
