The Gist: You may have missed it, but there was a special election Tuesday affecting three counties right on the border of Florida. The race was for state house district 175, and (spoiler alert) republican John LaHood won in a landslide. LaHood received 2,337 votes. His closest opponent received 778 votes, so this was the definition of a low-voter turnout race. According to The Valdosta Daily Times, turnout was so low that in one precinct no votes were cast.

The Players: State Rep. Betty Price, while speaking at the Fulton County GOP breakfast, read a list she found on the Internet about the differences between republican women and liberal women. Unfortunately for Price, a member of the audience was recording the speech on a cell phone and that recording landed in the hands of The Laurens County Democratic Party, who promptly posted it on Facebook. Price, as you probably already know, is the wife of former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who resigned in September after it was discovered that he chartered private jets on the taxpayers' dime.

The Gist: As the proposed City of Greenhaven in south DeKalb makes its way through the state legislature again, DeKalb County is expected to call for a study Tuesday of how new cities impact the county's ability to deliver services.

The Gist: The Georgia Department of Transportation's latest proposal to ease traffic congestion on Georgia's interstates is to create an entirely new highway that will run along I-75 from Macon to Henry County. The new highway will only be for commercial trucks.

What's Happening?: A democratic group led by former Attorney General Eric Holder and backed by Barack Obama has its sights set on Georgia's upcoming gubernatorial and senate races. The group, The National Democratic Redistricting Committee, has targeted 11 states this election cycle and says it hopes to win enough seats in red states to gain more influence over the 2021 redistricting process. The group is accusing republicans of gerrymandering districts in order to ensure republican control.
