‘Sickening Abuse:’ $5,000 Reward For Information About Severely Injured Puppy Thrown from Bridge in Macon

Start

A 10-week-old puppy, now named Guy Payne, was found gravely injured after being thrown off a bridge in Macon, prompting the Humane Society of the United States to offer a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the perpetrators.

The Incident

On May 21, a witness saw two suspects in a four-door sedan throw a blue, black, and grey backpack from a bridge along Mead Road. Upon retrieving the backpack, the witness discovered the severely injured puppy inside and immediately took him to SOS Rescue GA.

Veterinarians there found multiple old and new injuries, indicating weeks of torture before the puppy was thrown from the bridge. Guy Payne will require several surgeries to recover from his extensive injuries.

Community Response and Investigation

This act of cruelty has galvanized the local community and law enforcement. The Macon-Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be reported anonymously by calling 478-751-7500.

“The sickening abuse inflicted upon this defenseless puppy is inexcusable,” said Kassi Bennett, case manager of Animal Crimes at the Humane Society of the United States. “We hope this reward encourages anyone with information to come forward and help us identify the person responsible for this horrific crime.”

The reward in this case was doubled from the standard $2,500 to $5,000 thanks to a generous donation from a board member.
