Dex Carvey, the eldest son of comedian and actor Dana Carvey, has tragically died. He was 32 years old.
According to a report from TMZ, Dex died on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 16, after first responders responded to a call made by his girlfriend. Paramedics rushed to his location in Los Angeles, Calif. around 10 p.m., where he was found unresponsive in a bathroom and after revival attempts, was pronounced dead on the scene.
His father, known for his run on Saturday Night Live and the 1992 film Wayne’s World, confirmed the news of Dex’s passing with an Instagram post on Thursday, in which he confirmed that his son died as the result of a drug overdose.
“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy,” Dana, 68, began his emotional message. “Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.”
Dex is one of two children Dana shares with his wife Paula Zwagerman, as the duo also share younger son, Thomas Carvey, age 30. Both of their children are aspiring comedians, just like their famous dad.
“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years,” the grieving father continued in his post. “He was extremely talented at so many things—music, art, film making, comedy—and pursued all of them passionately.”

Continuing to memorialize his late son, Dana added, “It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”
“Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever,” the post read.
Dana then took a moment to tell “anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”
The post was signed off by both Dana and Paula.
