Residents across North and Central Georgia should be on the lookout for scattered thunderstorms and sweltering heat in the coming days.
Early this morning, thunderstorms are anticipated to roll into northwest Georgia, moving south and eastward throughout the morning. Some of these storms could pack a punch, with the potential to produce gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning strikes, according to the latest weather outlook.
For those living south of I-20, the afternoon and early evening might see a resurgence of these thunderstorms. “An isolated severe thunderstorm is possible. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe weather hazard,” the report stated.
From Saturday through next Thursday, Georgians can expect periodic thunderstorm activity, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
But it’s not just the storms residents should be wary of. The heat index is predicted to soar past 105 degrees south of I-20 on Saturday. By Sunday and Monday, almost the entire region, barring the far northeastern mountains, will experience these scorching temperatures. Residents are advised to take extra precautions if venturing outdoors. Drinking plenty of fluids and seeking shade can help mitigate the risks of heat-related illnesses.
