Georgia Man Accused of Pointing a Laser at a Police Helicopter

A Georgia man was apprehended by the Gwinnett County Police Department after aiming a green laser at a police helicopter near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Satellite Boulevard.

On July 22, the helicopter’s flight crew conducting an air security check was momentarily struck by the laser, prompting them to swiftly identify its source location.

According to authorities, the suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Aurelio Angeles Bautista, hailing from Dalton.

Bautista faces charges of Pointing a Laser at an Aircraft and has since been held at the Gwinnett County Jail. Both the FAA and the FBI Atlanta Office are set to take charge of further investigations regarding this incident.

Laser pointing incidents directed at aircraft pose significant risks, potentially jeopardizing the pilot’s ability to operate the aircraft and interfering with onboard equipment. Such activities are strictly illegal due to the potential harm they can cause to both pilots and the general public.
