The back-and-forth between the network and the White House continued into Friday evening.
President Joe Biden’s pre-Super Bowl interview with a Fox streaming service appears to be off once again in the latest chapter of the bizarre back-and-forth between the White House and the network.
A White House official told the Associated Press on Friday evening that it was “inaccurate” to say that the interview was back on for Super Bowl Sunday, contradicting a statement earlier in the day from a Fox spokesperson.
“As we said earlier, we had arranged an interview with FOX Sports Host Mike Hill & Vivica A. Fox with the President ahead of the Super Bowl and Fox Corp. had the interview cancelled,” the White House official said in a statement. “Fox has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate.”
Earlier in the day, a Fox spokesperson told the AP that Biden would be interviewed on Fox Soul, a streaming service that was launched in 2020 and is geared toward Black viewers. The spokesperson said that was “some initial confusion” about the interview with the President” but that Fox Soul was “looking forward” to the conversation.
The interview was expected to be Biden’s first with Fox since he became president. The lack of a pre-Super Bowl interview would also break with the tradition of the last two years when Biden was interviewed by CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell in 2021 and spoke with NBC News’s Lester Holt before last year’s championship game.
Super Bowl LVII between the Chiefs and the Eagles will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on Fox.
