A teenager died by suicide Monday night after leading Forsyth County deputies on a pursuit in a stolen police vehicle.
What Happened: Authorities say a Sandy Springs police car was stolen from an officer’s driveway in Forsyth County just before 7 p.m. Monday, January 6. Deputies located the vehicle minutes later near Peachtree Parkway and Sharon Road.
According to a news release from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit ended near South Forsyth High School when deputies used a “box-in” maneuver to stop the car. The stolen vehicle then struck a Forsyth County patrol car.
Who Was Involved: Deputies say they discovered the driver was a 15-year-old boy, later identified as a relative of the Sandy Springs officer. The teenager had a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was unresponsive.
What’s Next: Life-saving measures were performed until EMS arrived, but the teen was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
