The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a fatality accident that occurred on Saturday morning. The accident occurred March 9, at about 6 a.m. at the intersection of Buford Highway and Amwiler Road in unincorporated Atlanta.
Based on the preliminary investigation, a Honda Odyssey, driven by 64-year-old Hi Jeon was traveling north on Buford Hwy.
A Honda Civic, driven by 26-year-old Sumayia Fardous was traveling south on Buford Hwy.
According to police, at the intersection, Jeon attempted to make a left turn on a flashing yellow left turn signal. Mrs. Fardous crashed into the passenger side of Jeon’s Odyssey.

Fardous, who was pregnant, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, while at the hospital, the baby did not survive. Two passengers in Jeon’s vehicle were also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Gwinnett County Police Dept. public information officer Michele Pihera, Fardous was in the third trimester of her pregnancy.
The vehicles were impounded for further analysis.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident. At this time, no charges have been filed in this case. Charges may come at a later time.
The Gwinnett County Police are reminding drivers that they must yield to oncoming traffic when turning left at a yellow blinking left turn signal.
