A 27-year-old truck driver has been arrested in connection with Monday afternoon’s hit and run on Bells Ferry Road just south of Highway 92 that severely injured a 15-year-old girl.

Cherokee Sheriff’s Office officials say 27-year-old Adrian Perez Luis, of Forest Park, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with felony hit and run, serious injury by vehicle and distracted driving.

According to the Sheriff’s office, Luis was arrested at his place of employment, “A Garcia Produce and Trucking,” in Forest Park. The trucking company fully cooperated with the investigation.

Investigators say they believe Luis was entering information into a GPS on his phone at the time of the collision.

We would like to thank the public who called in tips that assisted identifying the vehicle, local businesses who provided investigators security video near the accident scene as well as the Cobb County Police Department who assisted in obtaining images of the truck shortly after the accident,” Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jay Baker said.

Luis is currently being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $17,580.00 bond.
