News Graphic

Looking to swap your weekend scroll time for some real-life adventure? The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is bringing back its 14th Annual Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) Workshop from October 31 to November 2, 2025, at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield.

This isn’t your typical retreat with yoga mats and mimosas. Instead, think backpacking, fishing, shooting sports, outdoor cooking, and nature photography — all taught by pros in a friendly, low-pressure setting.

“The atmosphere is positive and non-competitive, allowing every participant to feel confident, supported, and ready to have fun,” said program coordinator Casey Carrillo.

What’s the vibe?

  • Open to women 18+ at any skill level
  • Over 30 classes to pick from, ranging from chill (like nature photography) to hands-on tough (like shooting sports)
  • Options for camping in a tent, bringing your RV, or staying in the on-site lodge
  • Cost: $255–$300 depending on lodging, with 10 scholarships available
  • Registration runs Sept. 2–Oct. 15, but spots usually disappear fast

Why it matters

The BOW program is about more than just learning how to tie a better knot or cook over a fire. It’s designed to knock down barriers that keep women from enjoying outdoor spaces and to create a community that makes nature feel more accessible.

And if one weekend isn’t enough, there’s also Beyond BOW (BBOW) — a series of year-round one-day events with themes like handgun safety, freshwater snorkeling, twilight paddling, and guided hikes.
