A 29-year-old Marietta man lost his life in an early morning single-vehicle crash on Blackwell Road in Cobb County, while his passenger escaped with minor injuries.

🔍 What Happened: According to the Cobb County Police Department, Cody Chitwood was driving a 2023 Subaru WRX eastbound on Blackwell Road west of Autumn Ridge Parkway around 2:47 a.m. Saturday when the vehicle veered off the roadway.

The car traveled down a vegetated embankment, crashed through a wooden fence, and came to rest between two trees. Chitwood was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

His passenger, also 29, sustained only minor injuries in the crash.

🚔 The Investigation: The Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations S.T.E.P. Unit is investigating the collision. Police have not determined why the vehicle initially left the roadway.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the S.T.E.P. Unit at 770-499-3987. The case has been assigned number 25-050156.
