Live Updates: Hurricane Helene Closures and Cancellations Around Georgia

September 25, 2024
3 mins read

Hurricane Helene is expected to make landfall Thursday evening or early Friday morning, with Georgia bracing for its impact shortly after. As a precaution, schools and institutions across the state are canceling classes and events in anticipation of the storm’s arrival.

With school closures in metro Atlanta and beyond, thousands of students and staff will have their schedules disrupted. Those in areas closer to the coast are also preparing for severe weather, with several institutions issuing early dismissal notices or switching to remote learning for the remainder of the week.

🌪️ Why It Matters: Helene, which is projected to be a Category 3 hurricane at landfall, threatens to bring damaging winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding across the region. The closures aim to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff, as well as to reduce risks associated with commuting during the storm.
