Navigating a roundabout isn’t rocket science, folks, but judging by some of the driving out there, maybe it should be. If you’ve ever wondered what that circular bit of road is for—or why other drivers are honking at you as you try to navigate it—this guide from the State of Georgia’s Department of Public Safety is for you. So, buckle up and let’s get through this roundabout thing together.

Step 1: Approaching the Roundabout

First things first, let’s talk about the yield sign. For those who don’t know, “yield” is a word that basically means “pause, look around, and don’t just charge in like you own the place.” As you approach the roundabout, take a good look to your left. That’s where traffic is coming from, and yes, you need to pay attention to it. If there’s no oncoming traffic, you’re good to go—proceed into the roundabout.

But if there are cars already circling, this is your cue to hold off and let them pass. You might actually have to stop. Yes, we know there is a yield sign and not a stop sign, but remember, yield means if there is other traffic, you have to stop for it. You do not have the right of way until you actually enter the roundabout.

Step 2: Entering and Circling

Once you’ve managed to get into the traffic circle, here’s the big rule: Do. Not. Stop. Seriously, don’t even think about it. The whole point of a roundabout is to keep things moving. You’re supposed to drive in a counterclockwise direction, which is left for those of you still getting your bearings. Just keep moving, and remember, once you’re in the roundabout, you have the right of way. Yes, you’ve made it! You’re now the boss of the circle, but don’t let it go to your head. Other drivers may still try to sneak in, so keep your eyes open.

Step 3: Exiting the Roundabout
