We appreciate the art of a good, well-written and humorous Facebook post. Many such posts can be found from your local police departments. Today we share one from the Roswell Police Department urging residents — in a clever way — to be careful when setting off those July 4th fireworks.

Come July 5th, when people ask how your holiday was, make sure you can give them two thumbs up

That will be difficult if one thumb is gently smoldering on your neighbor’s roof. So let’s all be safe, wise, and considerate with our fireworks enjoyment.

Under Georgia law, fireworks can *technically* be used on any day from 10 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. So please, don’t set off Nuclear Thunder™️ mortars at 3am, and don’t call 911 for sparklers at 8pm. However if your thumb (or any other previously-attached portion of your body) is on your neighbors roof, please DO call 911.

Remember that consumer fireworks may NOT be ignited:
🧨 Indoors (duh….)
🧨 Within the right of way of a public road, street, highway
🧨 Under influence of alcohol or drugs (duh…)
🧨 On property of others without their consent
🧨 Within any park, historic site, recreational area or other area owned by the city.
🧨 Within one hundred (100) yards of a water treatment plant or waste water treatment plant, a gas station or refinery, any public or private electric substation, a helipad, a jail or prison, a hospital, nursing home or other health care facility.
