This is a look back at Georgia History feature: Here is the format.
Lede (Current Connection)
• 2–3 sentences that anchor the story in today’s news.
• Summarize the modern situation, then hint at its historical echo.
• Example:
“Republicans hoping to reshape Georgia’s political map might take a cue from 1991, when Democrats tried the same trick—and watched it backfire.”
Bridge to History
• 1–2 sentences explicitly stating the connection.
Example: “This same tactic was used three decades ago, when Democrats redrew Georgia’s districts to oust Newt Gingrich.”
The Time:
• Set the scene for the historical moment.
• Include:
• Month/year
• Who was governor, and which party held the legislature
• Key national figures/events
• One or two cultural or sports details for texture
• Example: “It was October 1991. Georgia was still deep blue. Gov. Zell Miller (D) held sway, and Speaker Tom Murphy ruled the House with an iron fist.”
