Amerigroup Georgia Holds Second Annual Back-to -School “Style Tour”

The second Annual Back to School “Style Tour,” organized by Amerigroup Georgia at T.H. Slater Elementary School, was a highly successful and impactful event that brought together numerous children and families in a display of support and empowerment.

Amerigroup collaborated with Radio One Atlanta, Level Up Barbershop, and the ZAS Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc, to orchestrate this event, providing participating students and their families valuable resources, including free haircuts, hairstyles, and school supplies.

Amidst the joyous atmosphere, attendees were treated to a diverse range of activities, including the distribution of free uniform shirts and socks, face painting, photo booth. and a complimentary concession stand.

Beyond the festivities, the Back to School “Style Tour” also made a positive impact on foster children. In conjunction with Foster Kids Matter, a dedicated non-profit organization, Amerigroup provided free shoes to several children from the foster care system who were present at the event.

The event addressed the challenges faced by families with school-aged youth across the state by providing free school clothing and haircuts to alleviate barriers to academic success caused by insufficient resources. Given that one in five students in Georgia lives in poverty, the financial burden of back-to-school expenses, which amount to nearly $600 per child, can be overwhelming for families with limited incomes.

The “Style Tour” program’s statewide outreach further exemplifies Amerigroup’s dedication to academic equality and empowering students from all backgrounds. By ensuring access to essential resources, the event aimed to level the educational playing field and create opportunities for each child to thrive academically.
