Hi! I wanted to let you know about a new initiative making it easy for Atlantans to waste less and become more sustainable.

Ridwell comes to Atlantans doors bi-weekly to recycle items that don’t (or shouldn’t) go into our trash cans and blue bins – such as batteries, light bulbs, dual layer plastics, styrofoam, and repurposing them into playground materials, garden matter, decks and building materials (to name a few). They partner with local Atlanta companies including Scraplanta, PAWS Atlanta, FODAC, Atlanta Mission and others to make sure these items are responsibly repurposed. Ridwell has already diverted 15 million pounds of waste from landfills.

Started by Ryan Metzger and his 6-year old son who began collecting hard-to-recycle items like batteries, light bulbs, and styrofoam in their Seattle neighborhood, Atlanta is the first East Coast city where Ridwell service is offered. Pick-ups began this summer and Ridwell has opened a new 8,000 sq ft warehouse near Howell Mill where collected items are sorted and processed. Ridwell also collects “featured” donations 2x per month (where they donate to local organizations), such as next week’s pet items pick-up, which will be donated to PAWS Atlanta. Other partners include: Fulton Metals (keys), ATL Mission (winter clothes), Giving on the Go (tote bags), Scraplanta (sewing supplies) and FODAC (pots & pans)

You can learn more about their transparency and efforts at Ridwell.com

Thanks,
Ross
