DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston has deemed the shooting of Army veteran John Robert Smith Jr. by VA police at the Atlanta VA Medical Center justified. Smith, experiencing suicidal thoughts, threatened staff with a knife, leading to the officer firing 13 shots. The use of force was considered legally justified.
