A single-engine Piper-28 plane crashed at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport on Thursday afternoon, after experiencing engine problems during a training session.
The plane, which had departed the airport but returned shortly after, crashed in a grassy area on the airport grounds. Fortunately, no people, vehicles or buildings were struck by the aircraft.
The pilot and a student who were onboard the plane at the time of the crash were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The Federal Flight Standards District Office will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. The office is responsible for enforcing regulations and providing oversight of the aviation industry.
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, located about 11 miles northeast of Atlanta, is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the United States. It serves as a hub for both corporate and private aviation, as well as flight training schools.
The airport has not released any further information regarding the incident at this time.
