The Gwinnett Department of Transportation project to build the Harbins Road interchange at State Route 316 will require lane closures and traffic pacing this month.
In order to prepare and place bridge beams on the new structure, the contractor will close the right lane of SR 316 eastbound on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This lane closure will begin approximately a half mile in advance of the Harbins Road Intersection. This lane closure will allow the bridge beams to be brought on site and placed on the bridge’s new structure.
On the following Monday and Tuesday night, Nov. 16 and 17, the contractor will close the left lane of SR 316 eastbound from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. While this lane closure is in place, eastbound SR 316 traffic approaching the project will be paced to allow workers to set the bridge beams over SR 316. The goal is to set five beams each night, so traffic is expected to be paced five times.
Pacing traffic means that law enforcement officers place their vehicles at the front of a lane of traffic and slow the traffic to provide a gap of time and space at the construction site without any motorists in the work zone. Message boards will be in place to make motorists aware of the pending work so they can take alternate routes as needed.
