Macon-Bibb County rang in the New Year with a dramatic start, demolishing the long-vacant Ramada Hotel in downtown Macon through a controlled implosion.
Hundreds of residents gathered at Coleman Hill and nearby streets early Monday morning to witness the historic event, marking a symbolic step in the city’s redevelopment efforts.
The implosion followed months of planning and hours of final preparations by more than 100 workers from several departments, agencies, and utilities. Officials ensured safety measures were in place, including clearing an exclusion zone, shutting off utilities, and setting up viewing areas for the public.
Below are some photos from the historic event.
