Downed trees reported in Gwinnett County

The Gwinnett County Fire Department has responded to two downed trees that hit houses and one that hit an apartment building Thursday in the wake of Hurricane Sally. Firefighters were on the scene of a tree down on a house on the 1500 block of Rock Springs Road, in Buford. The call was dispatched today at 9:21 a.m. Crews found a large pine tree down on the house with substantial damage to the structure. Occupants were home at the time and escaped unharmed. Heavy rainfall in wake of Hurricane Sally expected in Georgia

Heavy rainfall from Hurricane Sally will impact Georgia today through early Friday. Rainfall amounts have shifted southward, but 3 to 6 inches are still expected, with locally higher amounts. Soil is expected to become saturated, leading to heavy runoff and flash floods. Some rivers, creeks and small streams are expected to experience flooding that could last into the weekend or longer. Sally made landfall in Gulf Shores, Alabama just before 5 a.m. Wednesday and is now a Category 2 storm.
