Savannah will soon be home to a new monument paying tribute to Georgia native and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
The new monument will be part of the city’s new Riverfront Park on West River Street. The park will be located at the end of MLK Jr. Blvd. The monument will consist of a granite pedestal with a bronze bust of King on top facing north and will serve as the centerpiece of the park.
The Savannah City Council voted to approve the monument July 5 and funding will be provided by The Kessler Collection. The project is estimated to cost $113,540.
