{"id":8744,"date":"2019-03-20T15:26:23","date_gmt":"2019-03-20T19:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=8744"},"modified":"2019-03-20T15:26:30","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T19:26:30","slug":"doc-mcstuffins-is-coming-to-atlanta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=8744","title":{"rendered":"Doc McStuffins is coming to Atlanta"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Experience the first-ever museum exhibit based on Disney Junior\u2019s Peabody Award-winning television series \u201cDoc McStuffins\u201d as it opens at\u00a0Children\u2019s Museum of Atlanta.\u00a0<em>Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit\u00a0<\/em>debuts\u00a0Saturday, June 8, 2019\u00a0and will run through\u00a0Sunday, September 8, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highly interactive English and Spanish bilingual experience will transport kids and families from Doc\u2019s backyard clinic to the McStuffins Toy Hospital. There, families are invited to help Doc perform check-ups and diagnose toy patients while learning about healthy habits, compassion, and nurturing care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Riley Children\u2019s at Indiana University Health, Indiana\u2019s only comprehensive pediatric health system, has partnered with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrensmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Children\u2019s Museum of Indianapolis<\/a>to provide an opportunity for children to become comfortable in a healthcare setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a heavy order to convince children that going to see the doctor is not scary,\u201d said Dr. Paul Haut, chief operating officer for Riley Children\u2019s Health.\u201c But it can be done through educational and interactive experiences, which help them understand that what we do is help keep people healthy. By teaching visitors about healthy habits, such as practicing good hand hygiene, exercising regularly and eating well, we hope this exhibit will put children\u2019s minds at ease, while supporting our mission to keep all children healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDoc McStuffins serves as a great role model to children and adults, encouraging them to explore the importance of taking care of their own bodies as well as caring for others,\u201d said Children\u2019s Museum of Atlanta\u2019s Executive Director Jane Turner. \u201cThrough imaginative play, we hope our visitors will learn more about health, science and medicine and discover that children can be anything they want to be when they grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nancy Kanter, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Junior, said \u201cDoc McStuffins has already made a tremendous impact on how children see themselves and their possibilities by way of our popular TV series.\u201d She continued, \u201cWe are delighted to now bring the show\u2019s messages of care and compassion directly into communities across the country. We look forward to having young visitors experience Doc\u2019s playhouse clinic and toy hospital and learn firsthand about caring for themselves and others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disney Junior\u2019s Peabody Award-winning \u201cDoc McStuffins\u201d is an imaginative animated series about a 6-year-old girl who communicates with and heals stuffed animals and broken toys out of her backyard playhouse clinic and in the magical McStuffins Toy Hospital. Created and executive-produced by Humanitas Prize and Emmy Award-winning Chris Nee, the series has been lauded globally for its modeling of good health practices and imparting to young viewers the importance of taking care of oneself and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This exhibit was produced by The Children\u2019s Museum of Indianapolis and Disney Junior. The Children\u2019s Museum of Indianapolis is a nonprofit institution committed to creating extraordinary family learning experiences across the arts, sciences, and humanities that have the power to transform the lives of children and families.
