Georgia Gwinnett College President Stanley C. \u201cStas\u201d Preczewski, who previously announced his retirement last year, has decided to depart effective Jan. 11. He has accepted a new role leading Riverside Military Academy. Preczewski has served as president of GGC since 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn behalf of the Board of Regents and the entire University System of Georgia, I want to thank Stas for his leadership and dedication to the students of GGC,\u201d said Chancellor Steve Wrigley. \u201cHe\u2019s overseen the growth of Georgia\u2019s youngest state institution to an enrollment of more than 12,500 and helped ensure GGC\u2019s integral role in the community. I wish him success in his future plans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A search is already underway to select the next president. Georgia State University Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation Dr. Mary Beth Walker has been named interim president. She will assume this position effective Saturday, January 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About Dr. Mary Beth Walker<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Mary Beth Walker is the associate provost for strategic initiatives and Innovation at Georgia State University. Under the university\u2019s ambitious strategic plan, Walker helped to create exciting new initiatives for the university, such as a pipeline program that helps talented diverse undergraduates prepare for graduate and professional school. She is also assisting with the expansion of Georgia State\u2019s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute, part of the university\u2019s efforts to encourage student entrepreneurship across student majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She previously served as dean of the university\u2019s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. A professor of economics, Walker\u2019s scholarship includes applied econometrics and statistics, spanning education economics, public finance and health economics. Her recent research focuses on the evaluation of education policy.
