Part of Morisseau\u2019s\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Detroit Project\u00a0<\/em>trilogy,\u00a0<em>Skeleton Crew<\/em>, is an insightful drama about the value of work to workers and what happens when their livelihoods are threatened by layoffs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set in 2008\u2019s Great Recession,\u00a0<em>Skeleton Crew<\/em>\u00a0tells the story of factory workers at the last auto stamping plant in Detroit and their uncertainty as rumors of their plant\u2019s imminent closing stir.\u00a0Jamil Jude\u00a0True Colors\u2019 Associate Artistic Director, returns to the director\u2019s chair after a successful run of August Wilson\u2019s\u00a0<em>King Hedley II<\/em>\u00a0last spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dez, Shanita, Faye, and Reggie are a makeshift \u201cwork-family\u201d. Dez and Shanita are young people at the start of their careers who hope to make good on their dreams before the opportunity passes. Faye has worked at the plant for over 29 years but the retirement package looks a lot better for those who reach 30 years. Reggie, their manager, is stuck holding the company line &#8211; he wants to prepare his team for the plant&#8217;s closing but upper management requires his silence. Each must balance their own desires, their loyalty to one another, and their survival with the need for meaningful work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDominique\u2019s writing is profound,\u201d shared director Jamil Jude. \u201cHer voice is a blend of the beautiful poetry of the greatest writers of the diaspora and the laser-focused social critique of the modern age. She creates worlds with her specificity that honor her hometown of Detroit while giving everyone, regardless of their upbringing, something to chew on.\u201d Jamil added, \u201cIt\u2019s a joy to bring the words of one of America\u2019s best living writers back to the True Colors stage,\u201d referencing the 2015 production of Morisseau\u2019s\u00a0<em>Detroit \u201967<\/em>, the second installment of Morisseau\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Detroit Project<\/em>\u00a0trilogy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Skeleton Crew<\/em>\u00a0is the third play in the trilogy; True Colors will produce\u00a0<em>Paradise Blue<\/em>, the first work in the trilogy, next season. Playwright Morisseau received a McArthur \u201cGenius\u201d Grant in October of 2018 and was recognized as one of the top 20 most-produced playwrights in the 2018 \u2013 19 season by\u00a0American Theatre\u00a0magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True Colors is proud to support the local arts community with an all-Atlanta cast. The cast features three True Colors\u2019 alumni:\u00a0Tonia Jackson\u00a0(<em>Detroit &#8217;67, King Hedley II<\/em>) is \u201cFaye\u201d,\u00a0Enoch King\u00a0(<em>Detroit &#8217;67, To Trains Running, Fool for Love, Broke-ology, The Colored Museum<\/em>) is \u201cReggie\u201d, and\u00a0Anthony Campbell\u00a0(<em>Holler If Ya Hear Me<\/em>) is \u201cDez\u201d.\u00a0Asia Howard\u00a0makes her debut on the True Colors stage as \u201cShanita\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Skeleton Crew<\/em>\u00a0will be in preview performances February 12 \u2013 14 at 7:30 p.m.; Opening Night is Friday, February 15, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.. The show will run through March 10, 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performances during the run are Wednesdays \u2013 Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday \u2013 Sunday at 2:30 p.m. There will be 11 a.m. matinees on Wednesday, February 20, Friday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 6.
