{"id":38157,"date":"2022-07-14T14:18:24","date_gmt":"2022-07-14T18:18:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=38157"},"modified":"2022-07-14T14:18:28","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T18:18:28","slug":"despite-political-differences-kemp-and-warnock-lead-in-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=38157","title":{"rendered":"Despite political differences, Kemp and Warnock lead in polls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Despite being from different political parties, the two incumbents atop the Georgia ballot this year are leading their respective races, according to a new poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republican Gov. <a href=\"\/2022\/01\/13\/kemp-proposes-more-spending-on-education-health-care-and-public-safety\/\" title=\"Kemp proposes more spending on education, health care, and public safety\">Brian Kemp<\/a> is ahead of Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams 52% to 45%, according to a survey commissioned by AARP Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll found Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael <a href=\"\/2022\/03\/16\/warnock-introduces-bill-that-could-lower-costs-during-inflation\/\" title=\"Warnock introduces bill that could lower costs during inflation\">Warnock<\/a> holding a narrower lead over Republican challenger Herschel Walker, 50% to 47%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In both races, the Republicans lead among older voters, while the Democrats hold the advantage among women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kemp is 15 points ahead of Abrams among voters at least 50 years old 56% to 41%, while Walker leads Warnock among older voters 52% to 46%, according to the survey, conducted by the bipartisan polling team of Fabrizio Ward &amp; impact Research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kemp also enjoys a 27-point lead among men who took part in the polls, while Abrams is up 11% among women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warnock has a much larger lead among women, with 58% of the female vote to 39% for Walker, the main driver in Warnock\u2019s overall lead, according to a news release distributed with the poll results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The polling firm credited Kemp\u2019s overall lead to his 14-point edge over Abrams among independent voters. Warnock leads Walker by 3% among independents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poll found Kemp with a favorable image among 50% of the survey participants, while 46% found Abrams favorable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warnock\u2019s image was evenly divided at 47% favorable and 47% unfavorable. Walker was judged favorable by 41%, with 49% viewing him as unfavorable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The polling firm interviewed 1,197 likely Georgia voters between July 5 and July 11, including a statewide representative sample of 500 likely voters.
