{"id":36771,"date":"2022-06-16T08:30:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=36771"},"modified":"2022-06-16T08:31:27","modified_gmt":"2022-06-16T12:31:27","slug":"atlanta-opens-cooling-center-in-response-to-heat-wave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=36771","title":{"rendered":"Atlanta opens cooling center in response to heat wave"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"\/tag\/Atlanta\">ATLANTA<\/a> &#8212; In response to <a href=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/newsletter\/archive\/weather-alert-heat-index-hits-triple-digits\/\" data-type=\"newsletterglue\" data-id=\"36635\">heat indexes above 100 degrees<\/a>, the city of Atlanta opened a cooling center yesterday that will remain open through Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cooling center will be open from noon to 7 p.m. each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The center is located at the\u00a0Old MLK Natatorium\u00a0at 90 Boulevard, in Altanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water and light snacks will be provided to residents while in the cooling center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the heat index values are expected to reach up to 107 degrees between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National Weather Service is advising residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Friday, the heat index could reach 110 degrees, with strong thunderstorms also expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There may be a reprieve from the high temperatures in sight.
