The Georgia Department of Economic Development today announced that German multinational liner shipping company Hapag-Lloyd will invest $18 million in its new North American\u00a0headquarters to be located in Dunwoody, Georgia, creating an additional 250 jobs in the metro Atlanta region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHapag-Lloyd has been moving people and cargo around the globe for over 150 years, and is one of the most recognizable names in the shipping industry,\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>said GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cLikewise, logistics is an innate part of Georgia\u2019s economic prowess. From sea and rail to air and road, the state\u2019s economy has long been connected to the movement of goods and people. We are extremely excited to bring one of the most important companies\u00a0in the logistics industry to the state, joining a robust family of international companies that call Georgia home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Based in Hamburg, Germany, and with a fleet of over 250 modern container ships and a total transport capacity of 1.8 million TEUs, Hapag-Lloyd is one of the world\u2019s leading liner shipping companies. Hapag-Lloyd\u00a0currently employs more than 500 Georgians across the state. Once the company\u2019s North American headquarters project is complete, Hapag-Lloyd will employ more than 750 people in Georgia.
