{"id":30121,"date":"2021-10-26T16:51:21","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T20:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=30121"},"modified":"2023-09-24T16:06:09","modified_gmt":"2023-09-24T20:06:09","slug":"gwinnett-county-police-are-investigating-threats-against-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=30121","title":{"rendered":"Gwinnett County Police are investigating threats against schools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Gwinnett County Police Department has released messages regarding two recent threats to public schools in Gwinnett County and says it is remaining vigilant in investigating all cases of harassment, intimidation and threats of violence against schools in the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police department is working with the Gwinnett\u00a0County School Police to respond and investigate each case.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Though many of these threats are anonymous and turn out to be hoaxes, we will take every threat seriously. Threats and crimes committed upon\u00a0school grounds against students or school personnel are enforced with more substantial penalties and include incarceration time,&#8221; police spokesperson Hideshi Valle said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police department posted screenshots of the threats to social media. The screenshots show a threat made against Mill Creek High School that appears to be from last week, and a threat made against Collins Hill High School for Oct. 27. The department is passing all\u00a0information on to the Gwinnett School Police for follow-up and augmenting their workforce with additional patrols as requested. Threats can be reported to the Gwinnett Police Department, the Gwinnett County School Police, or the FBI.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The police department is urging parents and students to report any threats of violence they are aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Threats of violence against schools, officials, and workers in public schools can be reported to the\u00a0FBI\u2019s National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) at (1-800-CALL-FBI)\u00a0or online through the\u00a0FBI website (<a href=\"https:\/\/fbi\/gov.\/tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/fbi\/gov.\/tips<\/a>)To ensure that threats are communicated to the appropriate authorities, NTOC will direct credible threats to FBI field offices, for coordination with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office and law enforcement partners as appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, reporting threats of violence through NTOC will help the federal government identify increased threats in specific jurisdictions&nbsp;and widespread coordinated efforts to intimidate educators and education workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know someone making threats, please immediately contact the\u00a0Gwinnett Police Department by dialing 911.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Witnesses are encouraged to call GCPD Investigators or <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"\/city\/Atlanta\"   title=\"Atlanta\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Atlanta<\/a> Crime Stoppers with any helpful information.
